Le Caprice comes from Fort Ross-Seaview AVA, planted at 1,000-1,400 feet elevation to a “suitcase” clone (Pinot Fin) on a soil type of clay with basalt rocks. Pale to medium ruby-purple in color, the barrel sample of the 2019 Pinot Noir le Caprice (due to be bottled within the next few days) explodes from the glass with a profound, complex perfume of kirsch, raspberry coulis, mulberries and candied violets, followed by hints of chocolate box, wild thyme and cinnamon stick. The medium to full-bodied palate has beautiful poise with soft, silky tannins and understated acidity supporting the vibrant red berry and savory layers, finishing long and fragrant. 1,156 cases were made.

This is a solid, firm pinot with pine cones, bark, dark berries and wet earth. Mushrooms, too. Full-bodied, yet linear with lively acidity. Juicy, showing dried strawberries with salty and spicy notes.
