The 2019 Bin 138 Shiraz-Grenache-Mataro is a blend of 70% Shiraz, 17% Grenache and 13% Mataro, all aged in older French (80%) and American (20%) hogsheads. The emphasis here is on red fruit—raspberries and cherries—although hints of black olive and dark chocolate introduce some savory complexity. It's medium to full-bodied, rounded and approachable, but with the concentration and balance to drink well through at least 2030. Just 100 cases imported to the U.S., so it may not be the easiest Penfolds offering to track down.
