The 2017 Domaine Clarendon Syrah is all about with rendered roast fat and layers of blood plums and licorice. This has mulberry and spice. The vines are trained on single stake trellises, with cuttings from the Astralis vineyard. "The birds eat the top, and the kangaroos eat the bottom, and I’m left with the best bit in the middle," says Roman. It is supple and vibrant, with life and a bit of tension too. Yields are less than a ton to the acre. This comes from one of the highest vineyards in the McLaren Vale, at 350 meters above sea level in Clarendon, and Onkapringa river is the boundary. 2008 was the first vintage, but 2009 was the first released. Very fine silty tannins.
