In 1808, led by Apolline Henriot, the estate officially became Maison Henriot. Henriot is a brand known for its finesse, richness, purity, and refinement, striving to achieve a perfect balance among these qualities and showcasing the elegance, intensity, and lightness of their wines. Henriot places great importance on their vineyards, which are located in Chouilly, Avize, and Épernay. The grapes are manually harvested and rigorously selected. After bottling, the Champagne is aged in the cellars of Reims in Callo-Roman chalk caves, 18 meters deep, with a temperature of 11°C and humidity of 98%. This slow maturation process allows the Champagne to develop its character. In 2015, Gilles de Larouzière took over the family winemaking business, becoming the eighth-generation head of the estate. Gilles de Larouzière believes that the key factor in creating an elegant Champagne lies in the quality and origin of the grapes: the composition of the soil and subsoil, climate, and the growing environment of the vines. These elements give Champagne its terroir. In terms of blends, for example, the Brut Souverain consists of 40-60 different base wines, similar to a beautiful symphony where you may not be able to identify each instrument but can feel the perfection and completeness of the composition. The third factor is time. A Henriot Champagne requires at least 3 to 4 years of aging before release, which is much longer than the Champagne standard. The slow aging process allows the Champagne to develop delicate texture and elegant aromatic complexity. In 2020, Maison Henriot established the "Alliance Terroir Henriot" working group, which includes Maison Henriot, CIVC (Champagne Interprofessional Committee), Henriot's partner growers, and organizations or local institutions involved in terroir research. The main objective is to study Henriot's vineyard soils and the general terroir of the Champagne region, aiming to establish an understanding of the terroir from historical, analytical, and technical perspectives, and then appropriately use and protect Henriot's terroir. Henriot is not afraid to take on various challenges and hopes to compete with the world's top 10 Champagne brands. Through continuous challenges, they strive for constant progress.
