Belargus

Domaine Belargus is located in the Anjou region of the Loire Valley, France. The estate focuses on biodynamic cultivation of the Chenin Blanc grape variety. Owner Ivan Massonnat strongly believes that this method of cultivation brings more vitality to the grapes and enhances the expression of the white wines. Inspired by Burgundy, Ivan presents the wines as "single vineyard" expressions, allowing them to showcase the different terroirs of Anjou. The estate spans 24 hectares and includes notable vineyards such as Quarts-de-Chaume Grand Cru, which covers 10 hectares and is considered the heart of the winery. It is surrounded by three individual plots, Coteau des Treilles and Clos des Ruchères, both located in Savennières on rare purple schist slopes.
The wines from Domaine Belargus are characterized by their balance, tension, energy, excellent aging potential, and unique restrained aromatic profile. The estate also produces botrytized wines in exceptional vintages. Benefiting from the mist of the Layon River and good ventilation, these wines are known for their rich concentration, crisp liveliness, and are considered by international wine critics as mythical and extraordinary sweet wines.
