Shaw & Smith

In 1989, Michael Hill Smith and his cousin Martin Shaw founded Shaw and Smith winery, specializing in white wines such as Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Shaw + Smith owns two vineyards in Balhannah and Lenswood, located in the Adelaide Hills region, with a total area of 55 hectares.

The wines crafted by Smith can be considered a breakthrough in Australian wine, as they often surprise drinkers with their quality. They are sometimes mistaken for wines from the Old World rather than the New World, showcasing a fine balance that blurs the distinction between the two styles. Notably, Michael Hill Smith became the first Australian to earn the prestigious title of Master of Wine.
