Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 92

The 2022 Family Reserve Chardonnay has a deep lemon appearance with distinct peach, nectarine (even apricot) and lemon peel fruit complemented by some toasted new oak showing clove, toast and smoke (it was matured for around eight months in small-format French oak, 100% new). On the palate, this is full-bodied with soft but still sprightly acidity and relatively well-integrated 14% alcohol. There’s a decent core of varietally correct fruit with some lees' influence providing a relatively creamy texture. It's very clean, with not a sign of unwanted phenolics. There’s a danger that Chardonnay in the fine-wine world is judged by only cooler-climate expressions, but with aeration, this wine shows an abundant style that is expressive of Ningxia’s Helan Shan and doesn't lack in finesse. With its moderate to longer length, this is of the same quality as the 2021.
