"Sassicaia" in Italian means "a place with many stones," similar to Bordeaux, where the vineyards have diverse layers of rocks in the soil, making the two regions quite alike. Even the grape variety planted is quite similar, the well-known "Cabernet Sauvignon." Italians are known for their traditional approach, so at the time, there were some criticisms suggesting they should plant local indigenous grape varieties. However, the couple remained steadfast in their preference.
