【Chianti Back Vintage from 1960s and 1970s】

Old vintages of Italian Chianti Classico wines are now available. We have a selection of different vintages ranging from 1960 to 1970. Chianti Classico is known as one of the most prestigious wine categories in Italy and is produced in the Tuscany region. It is a designated DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) area within Tuscany. The Sangiovese grapes grown in the Chianti Classico region are recognized for their exceptional quality, resulting in wines of the highest standard. The unique soil composition, known as Galestro, contributes to the distinct aroma and complexity of these wines, setting them apart from other regions that produce the same grape variety. Chianti Classico wines are characterized by their vibrant acidity and are known for their aging potential, developing deeper layers of flavor over time.

Many people confuse Chianti with Chianti Classico. Chianti Classico DOCG has a legal designation separate from Chianti DOCG. However, they were originally part of the same region. In the mid-1980s, Chianti Classico was established as a distinct DOCG, separating it from the larger Chianti region. Chianti Classico wines must bear the "Black Rooster" label on their bottles as per the legal requirements. The grape composition for Chianti Classico requires a minimum of 85% Sangiovese. The wines are classified as Annate, Riserva, and Gran Selezione, with each tier having stricter production regulations. Annate wines must age for a minimum of seven months in oak barrels and have a minimum alcohol content of 12%. They cannot be sold immediately after production. Riserva wines must age for at least 24 months, with three months of bottle aging, and have a minimum alcohol content of 12.5%. Gran Selezione wines must age for a minimum of 30 months, with three months of bottle aging, and can only use grapes exclusively sourced from the classic Chianti Classico area.
