Clos du Marquis

Clos du Marquis is the second wine of the second growth estate, Léoville Las Cases, and was introduced to the market in the late 19th century. The name "Clos du Marquis" originates from a small plot called "clos" near the Las Cases estate, which was owned by a marquis. Among the Bordeaux second wines, Clos du Marquis has been a pioneer and has approached the quality level of third to fourth growth estates since 1989.Clos du Marquis has a vineyard area of 45 hectares, with an average vine age of 35 years. The topsoil of the vineyard, due to its past as a forested area, is rich in organic matter. This imparts the typical characteristics of a Saint-Julien red wine to Clos du Marquis: structure, complexity, harmony, uniqueness, and aging potential.In terms of product characteristics, being a sibling of Léoville Las Cases, Clos du Marquis exhibits similar flavors but in a more elegant and gentle manner. It is also priced more affordably compared to its prestigious counterpart.
