Dominus Estate

Speaking of the king of Bordeaux red wines, there is no doubt that Chateau Pétrus is at the top. Owner Christian Moueix studied in California in the late 1960s and was well aware of the winemaking potential there. After years of research and searching, he finally found the ideal vineyard, Napanook, in Napa Valley. Napanook is located in Yountville, Napa. Christian Moueix, along with the owners of Napanook, Robin Lail and Marcia Smith, collaborated to establish Dominus Estate and began producing wine. The official production started with the 1983 vintage. Following the success of Opus One, Dominus became another highly regarded red wine resulting from the collaboration between France and America. Dominus exclusively uses grapes from the Napanook vineyard. Naturally, Dominus employs the winemaking techniques of Pétrus, and the winemaker from Pétrus was sent to serve as a consultant for Dominus. Interestingly, while Pétrus is almost 100% Merlot, Dominus is primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, blended with Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. Many wine critics consider it the best Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine in Napa.
