Felsina

Felsina is located in the southernmost part of Chianti, Italy. Its history dates back to the 9th century when grape cultivation began in the region. The estate covers 588 hectares, with 94 hectares dedicated to vineyards. The annual production of wine is relatively low, ranging between 40,000 to 50,000 cases.The winery faced challenges during World War II, and its agricultural practices suffered. For a long period, Felsina operated as an inn, providing accommodation to travelers. It wasn't until later that the focus shifted to winemaking. Giovanni Poggiali, the eldest son, took over the management of the estate, while his cousin Caterina Mazzocolin became responsible for winemaking. Under their leadership and with a renewed dedication to quality, Felsina witnessed significant improvements.Felsina's wines have received critical acclaim, particularly from esteemed wine critic Robert Parker. The 2013 vintage of Felsina was highly praised by Parker, receiving an impressive score of 96/100 in the Tuscan category. Additionally, Felsina has been awarded the highest honor of three glasses by Gambero Rosso a remarkable 17 times. The estate is often referred to as one of the "Four Kings of Chianti," acknowledging its exceptional quality and reputation in the region.
