Henri Magnien was founded in 1987, with roots dating back to around 1700. After Henri, his son François took over until 2009 when the winery was handed over to Charles, the 31-year-old grandson, who elevated the quality of the wines to new heights. Charles Magnien has also gained attention as one of the rising stars in Burgundy winemaking. His wines are smooth, with a profound and deep taste, earning extensive praise from wine professionals and enthusiasts.

The winery is located in Gevrey-Chambertin and covers 6 hectares of vineyards, including Les Champeaux, Estournelles Saint-Jacques, Lavaux St-Jacques, Les Cazetiers, and Ruchottes-Chambertin. Within the vineyards, there is an ancient and unique Pinot Noir mutation called "Pinot Magnien," which the family planted in La Marie in 1850 and named after the Magnien family. The vines are over a hundred years old. Charles Magnien states that this grape variety exhibits concentrated flavors, and whenever the winery replants any grapes, they use this particular variety. The winery also has a strong commitment to oak barrels, selecting wood from "Fontainbleu" and "Chatillons." They employ a slow and gentle toasting process, resulting in more delicate vanilla and coffee aromas. The winery strives to create high-quality wines that can be aged but are also enjoyable to drink immediately, focusing on producing wines with balanced tannins rather than overly tannic wines.
