Jean Louis Chave has been cultivating grapes in the northern Rhône region since 1481, boasting a history of over 600 years. The Chave family has gained a renowned reputation and stands alongside esteemed estates such as Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and Château Lafite Rothschild. Their wines have been cherished by kings, nobles, and literary figures, including Louis XIV, Napoleon, and Victor Hugo.

The vineyards of the estate are located on the left bank of the Rhône River, with slopes facing west to south, allowing for ample sunlight while protecting against winds from the north. The granite layers in this area are an extension of the Central Highlands of France, reaching an elevation of up to 350 meters. The steep terraced slopes require manual labor as machines cannot be used, ensuring meticulous care by hand. The inclusion of vineyard names on the wine labels has become increasingly common, highlighting the distinct characteristics of each plot of land.
