Kanonkop

Kanonkop was established in 1659, making it one of the oldest wine estates in South Africa. It has remained in the same family since its inception, demonstrating its longstanding presence in the country. In 1973, the estate began bottling its own wines and currently owns 125 hectares of vineyards, cultivating six red wine varieties and one Rosé. The majority of their production is dedicated to the renowned South African grape variety, Pinotage. Developed in 1925 by a local South African professor named Perold, Pinotage is a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault, and it has become a source of pride for the country. Kanonkop began planting Pinotage in 1941, making them the custodians of some of the oldest Pinotage vines. Their winemaker was even awarded the International Winemaker of the Year title in 1989, solidifying their reputation for producing exceptional Pinotage.

Among their wines, the "Black Label" is the flagship and oldest vineyard selection, representing the pinnacle of their craftsmanship. On the other hand, "Kadette" is a younger vineyard selection, including a lively and vibrant Rosé version, showcasing a more youthful and exuberant style. With its diverse range of wines, Kanonkop has become a highly respected and esteemed producer of Pinotage, occupying a significant place in South African wine history and contributing to its legendary legacy.
