Mount Mary Vineyard and its founder, Dr. John Middleton. Dr. John served in the Australian Air Force for four years during World War II and later obtained a medical degree. Besides his life-saving medical skills, he single-handedly revived the grape growing and winemaking industry in the Yarra Valley, which had already declined by the 1970s. The vineyard was established in 1971 and is one of the first vineyards in the Yarra Valley to produce premium wines. The estate has always maintained a low profile, never seeking media attention and not providing wines for expert ratings (except for Robert Parker, who managed to taste them in secret ). The "Quintet" series from the winery is one of the most iconic wine collections in Australia. It has been rated as one of the highest-grade and most investment-worthy wines among 11 selections by renowned Australian auction house Langton's, rivaling Penfolds B95 Grange, Bin 707, and Henschke Hill of Grace. It is undoubtedly a must-have wine in any collection.
