Pape-Clement

Château Pape-Clement is located in the suburbs of Pessac, Bordeaux, and is likely the oldest estate in all of Bordeaux. It is also located near one of the five First Growth estates, Château Haut Brion. The name of the château comes from a boy born in Villandraut near Langon, who became the Roman Pope in 1306, known as Pope Clement V. Clement had a great eye for winemaking and under his guidance, the wines produced were of outstanding quality. These exceptional wines were reserved for the Pope's private residence and became known as "Pope's wines." Today, the estate is owned by the Magrez family, with most of the production focused on red wines.
