Sine Qua Non

The proprietor of Sine Qua Non is Manfred Krankl, who hails from Austria. Originally a restaurant and bakery owner, he is a passionate winemaker who has experienced life and death. He started the winery in 1994, initially producing only 100 cases of wine, which quickly sold out. By a fortunate coincidence, the wines were tasted by Robert Parker, who was astounded by their quality and awarded them a remarkable 95 points out of 100. This catapulted Sine Qua Non into a revered status, garnering a cult following. In 2014, the proprietor faced a life-threatening situation, causing great concern among wine collectors. As a result, at the end of 2014, a set of six Sine Qua Non wines was officially auctioned, fetching over sixty thousand dollars.

What sets Sine Qua Non apart from other cult wines is its deviation from the common use of Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. Instead, it prefers grape varieties from the Rhône region in France, such as Syrah, Grenache, Roussanne, and Viognier. With extraordinary craftsmanship, Sine Qua Non became the first winery to achieve 21 perfect scores of 100 points from Robert Parker. The annual production of each wine does not exceed 6,000 bottles, making these high-quality wines exceptionally precious.
