Ahrens Family

The Ahrens Family is a very young South African winery founded by Albert and Heidi, who have a combined 25 years of international winemaking and viticulture experience. Albert Ahrens has studied in various regions such as Champagne, Priorat in Spain, and the Rhone Valley. The cellar is located in a tranquil area at the foot of the Du Toitskloof Mountains in Wildepaardejacht, just outside the Paarl Valley in South Africa. The vineyards are spread throughout South Africa in areas such as Swartland, Voor-Paardeberg, Wellington, Paarl, and Stellenbosch. The winemaking process uses natural, indigenous yeast to give the wines their own unique personality and style. With their experience, the Ahrens Family has crafted a variety of different styles, with Chenin Blanc as the main white grape and incorporating Rhone Valley blends. The Kasteel-Neef also uses Spanish grape varieties as Albert had studied winemaking in Spain. The must-try red wine from this winery is "Black", a Rhone Valley blend and their first-ever release in 2008.
