Anne et Jean-Francois Ganevat Logo

Anne et Jean-Francois Ganevat

The Ganevat family has been cultivating grapes since 1650 and has been a prominent wine merchant in the Jura region for centuries. However, the estate experienced a significant rise in the past three decades thanks to Jean-Francois, known affectionately as Fan Fan. He is a charismatic and talented winemaker who grew up surrounded by wine cellars in Jura. Displaying a passion for winemaking from a young age, Fan Fan initially headed to Burgundy, specifically to the renowned estate of Jean Marc Morey, to study winemaking. After nine years of rigorous training, he returned to his homeland with Burgundy's winemaking philosophy and, alongside his sister Anne, became the fourteenth-generation heir of the Ganevat family estate. Currently, the estate encompasses approximately 13 hectares of vineyards in Jura.

Fan Fan is a fervent advocate for terroir expression and innovation. Upon his return to the family business, he decided to revamp the vineyards and winemaking methods by incorporating biodynamic practices, manual harvesting, gradually reducing the use of sulfur dioxide, and vinifying each micro-terroir separately. He is dedicated to cultivating and preserving a diverse range of local Jura grape varieties such as Savagnin, Poulsard, and Trousseau.

Preferring freedom in winemaking, many of his wines are classified as Côtes du Jura AOC, while others are labeled as Vin de France. Fan Fan's winemaking style involves minimal filtration and extended lees contact. His breakthrough wine, the "2005 Les Vignes de Mon Père," received a perfect 100-point rating from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate and was described by American wine critic Rajat Parr as one of the best wines in all of France. He was also honored as the Winemaker of the Year in 2018 by "La Revue du Vin de France," praising his remarkable contributions to the world of Jura wines.
