Bodega Lanzaga

Bodega Lanzaga was founded by Telmo Rodríguez, known as the "traveling winemaker," who started his career as a winemaker at the second-growth estate of Cos d'Estournel. However, his goal was to revive Spain's reputation for red wines on the international stage. He believed that Spain's future lies in its past and that certain regions in Spain, regardless of location and grape quality, can rival Bordeaux. Lanzaga is a blend of Tempranillo, Graciano, and Garnacha grapes, made with careful consideration for terroir, low production, meticulous cultivation, and even the use of biodynamic methods. Its quality is undeniable, earning high scores from wine critics over the years and solidifying its reputation as the "Spanish version of Romanée-Conti" among wine enthusiasts. In 2015, wine master and internationally renowned critic Tim Atkin followed the example of Bordeaux's 1855 classification system and published a Classification of Rioja, dividing the region's main wineries into five levels and selecting the top 61 wineries. Lanzaga was recognized as a first-level winery, further cementing its reputation.
