Bowmore

Bowmore was founded in 1779 and is one of the oldest distilleries on the Isle of Islay. It is a distillery that upholds traditional whisky-making methods. They originally used the time-consuming "floor malting" process, which is now employed by fewer than five distilleries. They also use locally sourced peat that has been soaked in seawater, adding to the expression of the unique terroir. The water used in their production is filtered through layers of high mountain rock and peat, gathering additional complex flavors.

Another notable feature of Bowmore is their iconic No. 1 Vaults. This is their oldest warehouse, often mentioned on their labels. It is one of the few whisky warehouses in Scotland that is situated below sea level. While it experiences less "angel's share" (evaporation) compared to other distilleries, it is influenced by the sea breeze from the west, giving Bowmore whisky its distinctive character. It is often described as having an addictive soapy bubblegum aroma.
