Boyd Cantenac

The Margaux appellation in Bordeaux has always been a favorite among Japanese wine enthusiasts. Its gentle and versatile character, elegant refinement, and noble prestige, represented by Château Margaux and Château Palmer, have garnered high praise from many Japanese wine critics and even popular manga such as "Kami no Shizuku" (The Drops of God) use descriptors like "Egyptian queen" to depict the Margaux region. However, the classified estates in Margaux are also known for having the most inconsistent quality among the Left Bank classified wines. Without selecting specific châteaux, one may encounter unpredictable variations in quality.

Boyd Cantenac is a third-growth estate in the Margaux appellation that had an unstable performance before 2000. In fact, during the 1970s in Margaux, there were very few estates that could be regarded highly, and many of them had to rebuild from ruins. Boyd Cantenac is considered one of those estates. In the same appellation, there are other classified estates bearing the Cantenac name, such as Brane Cantenac and Cantenac Brown, although the latter is less commonly seen. Boyd Cantenac, owned by the Guillemet family, is also associated with another classified estate in the same area, Pouget.
