Brunello di Montalcino is a name that most people are familiar with, originating from a region in central Tuscany. There is a common misconception that it is part of Chianti; however, many believe that the region must have a long-standing history of winemaking to produce such renowned wines. In reality, the appearance of the term "Brunello" before "Montalcino" only dates back to the 19th century. Brunello is both a grape variety and a synonym for Sangiovese, which must be used in 100% Sangiovese wines to bear the name "Brunello."

To carry the name Brunello, the wine must be aged for a minimum of 2 years in wood barrels, followed by at least 4 months in the bottle. For a Riserva designation, the wine must undergo additional aging of at least two months in the bottle and cannot be released for sale until it has been aged for a minimum of 6 years. These wines are known for their ability to age gracefully for 10-30 years.

Dating back to as early as 1971, each bottle undergoes extended bottle aging, resulting in rich dried plum, sour cherry, sweet dried currant, hints of spices, tranquil forest earthiness, and silky tannins.
