Chasse Spleen

Among the vast array of châteaux in Bordeaux, Chasse Spleen stands out with its reputation, surpassing many of the mid-level estates. The estate was established in 1560 and is located in the lesser-known Moulis-en-Médoc appellation on the Left Bank. In 1860, it officially changed its name to Chateau Chasse Spleen, which translates to "hunt for melancholy" or "chasing away the blues."There are two popular explanations for the origin of the intriguing name "Chasse Spleen." One of them, widely accepted, dates back to 1821 when the renowned English poet Lord Byron visited a friend and passed by the estate. After tasting the estate's fine wines, he exclaimed, "This is a remedy for chasing away the blues," thus giving rise to the name, which has endured until today.
