Clos Mogador

Clos Mogador was founded by Priorat pioneer Rene Barbier, a legendary figure in the Spanish wine industry and a leader in the revival of Spanish wines. He led Spanish wines out of obscurity and into the spotlight, and his family has a long history in the wine business. He studied red and white winemaking in regions such as Burgundy, Bordeaux, and Alsace in France and even had the opportunity to learn at the prestigious Chateau Petrus in Bordeaux. After honing his skills, he returned to Spain and bought a plot of land in Priorat purely for vacation, but soon discovered its immense potential and began making wine with his friends. The winery is located in the village of Gratallops in Priorat, a highly respected region in Catalonia, Spain. The terrain is steep and difficult to grow grapes on, but it has unique soil and is now the only DOCa (Denominación de Origen Calificada) in Spain, on par with Rioja. The region also has its own strict classification system, modeled after Burgundy.

When Rene Barbier and his friends produced their first batch of wine, it was named the best wine in Spain by "Gault Millau" magazine in 1992, shocking the entire wine industry and putting the region and winery on the map. Even Robert Parker confidently declared, "Don't wait, just buy it! Clos Mogador needs no introduction."
