Contratto

The estate has been established for over 145 years and is the first winery in Italy to produce vintage sparkling wine using the "traditional method." In the 1920s and 1930s, Contratto's sparkling wines were even chosen as official wines by the Vatican and the Italian royal family. They were exported to the British Empire and its colonies, where they were enjoyed by ambassadors and colonial officials.

After the base wine undergoes its initial fermentation, it is separated and aged in individual temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Once the base wines are blended, they are bottled and undergo a second fermentation with the addition of sugar, allowing the wine to develop bubbles. The bottles are then aged on their lees for a minimum of three years in Contratto's underground cellars, maintained at a constant temperature of 13 degrees Celsius.

In 2011, the renowned winery La Spinetta acquired Contratto. Since then, every bottle of Contratto sparkling wine features the emblem of La Spinetta—a rhinoceros—on its back label, symbolizing the new ownership and partnership.
