Don Melchor

Concha y Toro winery in Chile is renowned for its flagship red wine, Don Melchor, which has long been recognized as one of the finest red wines in Chile by international wine critics. This red wine originates from the prestigious Maipo Valley's Puente Alto region, known for producing some of Chile's best red wines. The vineyards in this area have gravelly alluvial soils, which were deposited by ancient glaciers from the Andes Mountains. These soils have excellent drainage properties, making them ideal for growing Cabernet Sauvignon. The average age of the vines in the Don Melchor vineyard is over 30 years.The Don Melchor vineyard is undoubtedly one of the best vineyards in Chile. In the mid-1990s, Concha y Toro and top Bordeaux winery Mouton-Rothschild started a collaborative project to produce Almaviva, a premium red wine. Interestingly, the grapes used for Almaviva are sourced from vineyards that were originally part of the Don Melchor vineyard. Therefore, Don Melchor and Almaviva can be considered as brothers with the same origin.
