Escalada Do Sil is a winery dedicated to reviving ancient winemaking styles, founded by Alberto Orte, a captivating winemaker from Spain. Growing up in Madrid and attending law school, his interest in wine was sparked during a visit to Cádiz where his family was involved in the wine industry. This experience ignited his passion, leading him to pursue a winemaking diploma and continue the winemaking tradition passed down in his family since the late 19th century.

Escalada Do Sil focuses on reviving ancient winemaking styles by safeguarding Spain's old grape-growing heritage and rescuing old grape varieties. They cultivate Merenzao, Mencia, Garnacha, and Trousseau for red wines, while Godello dominates their white wine production. The winery not only revives ancient grape varieties but also resurrects the traditional red wine style of Valdeorras. Before the 19th century, the Valdeorras region was renowned for producing red wines, particularly the rare Merenzao, making it a must-try for wine enthusiasts looking to delve into the historical roots of Spanish winemaking.
