Domaine Francois Bertheau

Many years ago, renowned British wine guru Jancis Robinson made an interesting comment about Domaine François Bertheau: "I do wonder how he has managed to fly beneath the international Burgundy-loving radar for so long."

"I was amazed he could fly under the radar of the Burgundy Lovers for such a long time."

The winery is located in Chambolle-Musigny. François Bertheau, the fifth-generation owner, took over from his father, Pierre Bertheau, in 2004. The winery boasts 6.2 hectares of vineyards, primarily located in the village of Chambolle. However, François Bertheau remained relatively inactive for many years. Initially, he did not bottle the wine under the estate's name, but instead sold barrels to négociants. This is one of the reasons, as Jancis Robinson puts it, "François Bertheau flew under the radar of Burgundy lovers." It was only after François Bertheau's considerable experience that he switched to bottling and selling the wines himself under the estate's name.
