Grand Puy Ducasse

The history of Grand Puy Ducasse can be traced back to the 18th century when Arnaud Ducasse purchased a house near the Gironde River. He acquired a piece of land from Jacques de Ségur, who was renowned in Bordeaux, particularly in the Medoc region, for owning many prestigious châteaux. Grand-Puy Ducasse has a unique characteristic in that it is one of the few châteaux not located directly next to the vineyards but rather in close proximity to the Gironde River.Over time, the estate expanded through several transactions, including Pierre Ducasse's acquisition of vineyards in Pauillac from the Dejean family. The Ducasse family's holdings were divided into two parts: Château Grand-Puy Ducasse and the planned Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste. In 1797, Pierre Ducasse's son inherited the 148-acre Ducasse-Grand-Puy-Artigues-Arnaud estate.During the official Bordeaux classification of 1855, the estate was operated by Pierre Ducasse's two grandsons and was initially known as Château Artigues Arnaud before being renamed Chateau Grand-Puy Ducasse.
