Henri Jouan

Henri Jouan is located in Morey-Saint-Denis. Established in 1962, Henri Jouan was a lifelong friend of the Burgundy legendary winemaker Jacky Truchot. In 2004, Henri's son Philippe Jouan took over the estate. Philippe, who manages the winery, refrains from any form of promotion due to their very limited production. Most of their grapes are sold to the renowned wine merchant Joseph Drouhin. The estate spans only 3 hectares of vineyards across Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis, Gevrey-Chambertin, with the most crucial plot being in Clos Saint-Denis.

Jasper Morris MW, a prominent British wine critic, noted that since its inception, the winemaking style at Henri Jouan has remained largely unchanged. Philippe has inherited his father's traditional methods, being particularly gentle during pressing to avoid extracting harsh tannins. However, he has made slight adjustments to the percentage of stems used, shifting from 100% destemmed to a maximum of 10% stems included in the fermentation. The wines from the estate are pure and flawless, exhibiting rich fruit aromas when young and excellent texture. With aging, they reveal additional layers and complexity.

Surprisingly, these wines are often sold at relatively low prices despite their exceptional quality.
