The winery was founded in 1798 by Memmie Janquess and is located in the heart of the Champagne region in Châlons. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious Champagne houses, even receiving the favor of Emperor Napoleon, who designated it as his official Champagne. They are also known as the "Father of Krug," as Johann-Joseph, the young owner of Krug, learned the art of winemaking at this estate for a remarkable nine years, establishing its legendary status. However, during the 19th century, the winery faced a decline. It was later acquired by the Chiquet family, and with the emergence of the two brothers, Jean-Hervé and Laurent, they faced the challenge of revitalizing the estate, striving to be "better than the best," pursuing excellence and unwavering commitment in every step of the winemaking process. They relocated their vineyards to include some Grand Cru and Premier Cru sites, allowing them to blend different plots and vintages, enhancing the complexity of their Champagnes.
