John Duval

John Duval, one of the most well-known winemakers in Australia over the past 20 years, served as the chief winemaker for the prestigious Australian brand Penfolds. He was responsible for crafting Penfolds Grange, the flagship wine of the brand, and is the third generation to carry on the legacy of Grange. Duval has won numerous awards for his contributions to the wine industry.

In 2003, he departed from Penfolds and established his eponymous winery in the Barossa Valley of Australia. He embarked on creating his own estate, and the Eligo Shiraz became the flagship wine of his winery. It can be considered a wine that rivals the renowned Grange, but with a price tag that is only a fraction of its counterpart.

The Eligo Shiraz is crafted using Shiraz grapes sourced from 60-year-old vines in the Barossa Valley, along with a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon (approximately 5%). It received a remarkable score of 98 from Wine Advocate in 2013, further solidifying its reputation as an exceptional wine.
