Komagatake

Komagatake refers to both a mountain and a distillery in Japan. Mount Komagatake is a dormant volcano located in the southern part of the Japanese Alps, in Nagano Prefecture. The mountain provides a picturesque backdrop for the whiskey distillery known as Mars Shinshu Distillery.The Mars Shinshu Distillery, also known as Mars Whisky, is situated at the foot of Mount Komagatake. It was originally established in 1985 but temporarily ceased operations in 1992. The distillery was later reopened in 2011 and has since gained recognition for producing high-quality Japanese whiskey.Mars Whiskey produces single malt whiskey using traditional Scottish distillation methods combined with Japanese craftsmanship. The distillery has its own water source and uses a mix of Scottish barley and locally grown Japanese barley for their whiskeys. They also age their whiskeys in a variety of cask types , including ex-bourbon, sherry, and Mizunara oak casks.They often exhibit a delicate balance of flavors, with notes of fruit, malt, spices, and a hint of Japanese oak from the Mizunara casks.
