Kuheiji

Domaine Kuheiji is a renowned winery established by the famous Japanese sake brewer Kuheiji in Burgundy, France. Since 2016, they have been producing high-quality Burgundy wines alongside their Japanese sake and vineyard estate. The winery is located in Morey-Saint-Denis, a well-known appellation in the Côte de Nuits region. Establishing a winery in France to produce Western-style wines while brewing Japanese rice wine in Japan is no small feat, making it a significant milestone for Kuheiji.

Kuheiji greatly admires the terroir-oriented philosophy of Burgundy. Their Kuroda Shuzo brewery in Japan draws inspiration from Burgundy's farming and winemaking principles, applying them to rice cultivation and sake production. Kuheiji believes that rice, like grapes, is influenced by the terroir, so they are eager to deepen their understanding of the land, microclimate, and cultivation methods' impact on the crops. Burgundy is the ideal place for them to learn and put their knowledge into practice.

All the grapes used by the winery are grown in their own vineyards. They employ gentle extraction methods, slow fermentation, and aim to preserve the fruity aromas while creating wines with a solid, refined, elegant, and avant-garde character. Their wines embody a harmonious blend of nature, people, and terroir, showcasing refreshing acidity and smooth tannins.
