Laurent Roumier is a member of the renowned Roumier winemaking family, along with the two major estates in Chambolle-Musigny, Comte Georges de Vogüé and Georges Roumier. Georges Roumier had seven children, and the eldest, Alain, did not inherit the family business. Instead, he served as the head winemaker at Comte Georges de Vogüé for a remarkable 30 years. The Domaine Roumier was later passed on to the younger son, Jean-Marc, and is currently managed by his son, Christoph. Laurent, on the other hand, is Christoph's cousin.

Alain has two sons, with the eldest, Hervé Roumier, establishing his own estate in 1978. In addition to his own venture, Hervé succeeded his father as the head winemaker at de Vogüé after Alain's retirement. The younger son, Laurent Roumier, worked and learned alongside his older brother for eight years before establishing his own estate in 1994. Apart from the original vineyard plots, Laurent also acquired a portion of the prestigious Clos de Vougeot vineyard from Georges Roumier. Over time, he continued to acquire vineyards, expanding the estate to its current size.

Laurent Roumier's winemaking philosophy leans more towards the practices of Henri Jayer, employing whole-cluster fermentation and cold maceration. This approach allows for a thorough extraction process, resulting in wines that are solid, deep, and possess a structured body. Similar to Georges Roumier, these wines also exhibit the classical aging potential. After a period of cellaring, the Roumier family's style and the distinct terroir of each vineyard become even more apparent.
