Levert Barault

Levert Barault owns less than 10 hectares of vineyards, yet it possesses the best vineyards in the region. It is one of the oldest wineries in "Mercurey" and owns vineyards such as "Les Combins," "Clos des Barraults," and "Champs Martin." The winery was taken over by the "Picard" family in 1995, and since then, it has gradually gained recognition on the international stage. Mercurey is one of the five major satellite appellations of Burgundy and one of the most important regions in "Cote Chalonnaise." Although the Picard family's history is not long, they have expanded from 2 hectares to 140 hectares in a short period, creating an astonishing and legendary story. Since 2004, the family, led by Francine Picard, who previously held a sales position at Nike, has brought new perspectives and fresh thinking to the winery, breaking free from traditional constraints and bringing about a new era. They have also embraced biodynamic practices and significantly reduced the use of sulfur dioxide. In the 2020 vintage, sulfur dioxide was almost eliminated. Over the years, they have witnessed changes in soil and wine quality, confirming their belief that they are on the right path.
