Lopez de Heredia

López de Heredia is a Spanish winery with a rich history spanning over a century. It is one of the oldest wineries in Rioja and is recognized as one of the top 100 wineries by Wine & Spirits magazine. Renowned Taiwanese wine writer, Lin Yu-Sen, praised López de Heredia as the "winery that stops time" in his book "Spanish Wines."
The winery continues to uphold the winemaking traditions of a century ago, making it feel like a living wine museum. López de Heredia is known for its extended oak barrel aging and its focus on single vineyard expressions that showcase the unique terroir. One of their flagship vineyards is the Vina Tondonia, which spans over 100 hectares.
What sets López de Heredia apart is their use of large fermentation vats ranging from 6,000 to 24,000 liters, some of which have a history of over 125 years. They rely solely on natural yeast for fermentation and do not have any temperature control systems. The top red wines from López de Heredia are aged for a minimum of 8 years, and the white wines are aged for at least 6 years before being released to the market. Their winemaking methods are highly uncommon worldwide, making their wines truly unique and considered as treasures.
