Marqués de Murrieta

Marqués de Murrieta is undoubtedly one of the top wineries in the Rioja region. Founded in 1852 by Luciano Francisco Ramón Murrieta, who dedicated his life to winemaking, the winery made significant contributions to the prestige of Rioja and Spanish wines as a whole. After studying winemaking in London and Bordeaux, Murrieta returned to Rioja and crafted wines of remarkable quality, catching the attention of Queen Isabella II, who ennobled him as the "Marqués de Murrieta," leading to the renaming of the winery.

Upon Murrieta's passing in 1911, the estate was passed on to his nephew, Vicente Cebrián Sagarriga. Today, the estate is managed by owner Vicente Dalmau. Marqués de Murrieta is not only renowned for producing exceptional wines but also stands as a prominent figure in Rioja winemaking. The winery now spans 300 hectares of land, following the most traditional winemaking practices. Grapes are handpicked, and the annual production remains very limited at only 14,000 bottles, including the prestigious "Castillo Ygay" series aged in oak barrels for a minimum of 36 months.
