Occidental Winery was established by Steve Kistler after his time at Kistler Vineyards, driven by his lifelong dream of crafting high-quality Pinot Noir wines. He ventured into the relatively unknown region of Freestone Occidental to pursue this passion discreetly. Situated in the unique coastal terrain of western Ohio, this winery benefits from exceptional terroir conditions, enabling the production of world-class Pinot Noir.

Since the early 1990s, Steve Kistler believed that the maritime terraces surrounding the Bodega, the climate on the ridges, and the soils provided the ideal terroir for crafting Burgundian-style Pinot Noir. In 2011, he founded Occidental Winery, and as more vineyards continue to mature, the projected highest production is expected to reach 7,500 cases. Occidental Winery is dedicated to producing exceptional Pinot Noir that reflects the best of its terroir.
