"The king of wines, the wine of kings" is the classic motto bestowed upon the Tokaj Oremus winery's wines by King Louis XIV of France. Even after several centuries, the Tokaj wines produced by the winery are still considered as unparalleled treasures in the world of wine. In the year 1616, Prince György Rákóczi I acquired the vineyards of Tokaj Oremus and owned them until 1711. In 1631, the winery produced its first bottle of Tokaj Aszú wine, a highly significant wine created specifically for Prince Rákóczi to present to his wife, Princess Zsuzsanna.Since 1616, the winery has witnessed the rule of the Rákóczi family, the conflicts of the 17th century, and the management by the Brezenheim family. In the late 19th century, it was regarded as a rare treasure by Prince Windischgraetz and the Dokus family during the Millenary Wine Competition in Hungary, which celebrated a thousand years of Hungarian wine. The Tokaj Oremus winery has a rich history and continues to produce exceptional wines that are cherished and celebrated for their unique qualities.
