Poggio Antico is located in the Brunello di Montalcino region, south of Tuscany's Montalcino. It was established in 1976, comprising of three vineyards: "I Poggi," "Madre," and "Le Martine." In 2000, the estate underwent a complete renovation and became a modern winery. Since then, it has gained recognition worldwide and was even gifted by President Obama to his deputy, John Bohener, in 2012. The estate was later acquired by Marcel van Poecke, and a management team consisting of local agronomists and winemakers gradually transitioned to organic farming, obtaining certification in 2020.

The estate covers 35 hectares and is situated at an altitude of 500 meters, protected by the ancient volcano, Amiata. The soil in all three vineyards is a unique combination of clay and limestone, perfect for growing Sangiovese, giving the wines a full-bodied and alluring aroma. The estate has put a lot of effort into both grape cultivation and winemaking, introducing their own "Soil Units" vineyard management system, which accurately determines the appropriate cultivation and harvest time to sustain the vines' vitality. The grapes go through a triple selection process, including manual, sorting table, and optical sorting machines, ensuring that only the best grapes are used for winemaking. This dedication to quality has led to numerous 95+ point ratings from Robert Parker and James Suckling in multiple vintages.
