Silver Heights was founded by Gao Lin and his daughter Gao Yuan in 2007. Gao Yuan now oversees the winery. She studied winemaking in Bordeaux, France, where she obtained the French National Diploma in Oenology and interned at the renowned Chateau Calon Segur. She began experimenting with winemaking on their family farm. The vineyards of the winery are located at an altitude of 1,200 meters on the eastern foothills of the Helan Mountains, in the golden grape-growing zone at 38° north latitude. The main grape varieties include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, and Riesling. The winery's cultivation practices have been certified by Demeter as biodynamic.

In terms of winemaking processes, the winery adopts different techniques for different types of wines. For red wines, after destemming and crushing the grapes, there is a seven-day cold soak process with multiple daily punch-downs and low-temperature fermentation. For white wines, the grapes undergo slight oxidation before pressing, followed by fermentation in stainless steel tanks or oak barrels. Finally, all wines are clarified using egg whites before bottling.

Silver Heights is highly acclaimed by wine professionals and consumers alike. Renowned wine critic James Suckling awarded 93 points to the Silver Heights Emma's Reserve for both the 2014 and 2015 vintages. The 2017 vintage received a rating of 94 points from the Robert Parker team. Additionally, at a dinner hosted by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang at the Summer Palace for German Chancellor Angela Merkel in 2016, the 2013 Silver Heights The Summit and the 2014 Silver Heights Family Reserve Chardonnay were proudly served as part of the state banquet.
