The Singleton brand encompasses three distilleries: Glendullan, Dufftown, and Glen Ord. Among them, Glen Ord Distillery was established in 1838 and is one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland. The whiskies from Glen Ord are renowned for their natural richness and smoothness, making them particularly well-suited to Asian palates.The Singleton brand pioneered the use of long fermentation and slow distillation methods, creating harmonious and smooth single malt whiskies with distinctive character. Glen Ord distillery is unique in that it uses its own homegrown malt and also supplies malt to other distilleries. After germination, the barley goes through the process of saccharification before entering fermentation. Yeast is added to the sugary water to ferment it into a liquid called wash, similar to beer. The Singleton insists on using a long fermentation technique, lasting around 75 to 80 hours, to create a wash with intensified fruity aromas.After fermentation, the wash is transferred to copper stills, which help refine and purify the liquid. Through slow distillation, the wash has an extended contact time with the stills. While it takes longer to complete the distillation process, this allows more impurities to be absorbed by the copper, resulting in the distinctive smoothness and richness that are characteristic of The Singleton whiskies.
