Tenuta delle Terre Nere was founded by Marc de Grazia, an Italian-American wine merchant, and is highly renowned in Italy, especially for its Barolo wines. During the "Barolo War" in northern Italy, where winemakers were divided between traditional and modern styles of Barolo production, Marc de Grazia championed the "modernist" approach in the 1980s, successfully breaking into the American market and sparking the Barolo controversy. With a keen eye, he was one of the first to recognize the potential of the Etna wine region.

In 2001, Marc de Grazia established Tenuta delle Terre Nere, showcasing the perfect expression of Sicilian terroir through his expertise. Known for his networking skills and sharp market sense, he has become a prominent figure on the international stage, earning the reputation of being a shining star with the label "the Burgundy of the Mediterranean."
