Vieux Telegraphe

The history of Vieux Telegraphe dates back to 1891 when the Brunier family began their legendary journey of vine cultivation. Hippolyte Brunier planted vines on this land and in 1898, started production on a plot less than one hectare in size, located at the highest point of the Chateauneuf-du-Pape appellation, called "La Crau." This vineyard was poor and did not attract much attention. Cultivating the land was very difficult, but Hippolyte's grapes were of high quality, so he increased production and slowly expanded to 16 hectares. After his grandson, Henri Brunier, took over, there were significant changes. A new winery was built and temperature control machines were introduced. The estate was named after a local signal tower, built by Claude Chaffe, the inventor of the telegraph. Hence, Henri named the estate "Vieux Telegraphe." It still uses grapes from the La Crau vineyard, with old vines that provide incredible depth and concentration. Today, it has been recognized by Robert Parker as one of the 155 greatest estates in the world and is a legend in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Old vintages will be available for a Vertical Vintages tasting.
