A Matured and Complex Amarone

Amarone is a fermentation mistake of Recioto, where one day, all the sugar in Recioto accidentally ferments completely, becoming the most representative wine of the Valpolicella region. In the early days, labels would read Recioto Amarone Della Valpolicella because at that time, Amarone was still living in the shadow of Recioto and had not yet emerged as an independent entity. It wasn't until 1968 when Recioto was granted DOC status, becoming Recioto Amarone Della Valpolicella DOC / Recioto Della Valpolicella DOC. It wasn't until 1990 that Amarone truly came into its own, being awarded the Amarone Della Valpolicella DOC designation. From then on, its reputation grew steadily, and by 2009, Amarone and Recioto soared together, eventually being promoted to DOCG status as a recognized appellation.
