Cappellano is a Historic Estate in Piedmont, Originating in 1870s

Established in 1870 by Filippo Cappellano, this estate stands as a sanctuary of tradition in Serralunga d’Alba. For over 150 years, the family has eschewed modern trends, famously led by the late Teobaldo Cappellano, a visionary often called "The Last of the Mohicans" for his fierce protection of artisanal winemaking and his rejection of the points-based rating system.

The estate is legendary for its Barolo Chinato, an aromatized wine invented by the family’s ancestor, a pharmacist. Today, under Teobaldo’s son Augusto, the winery continues to produce iconic Barolos from the Gabutti vineyard. The Piè Rupestris represents the power of grafted Nebbiolo, while the Barbera d’Alba offers a vibrant, acidic purity that reflects the site's limestone-rich soil. By maintaining low yields and using large Slavonian oak casks, Cappellano preserves a "pre-industrial" elegance, making their bottles some of the most soulful and sought-after treasures in the world of wine.
