De Sousa

The Champagne house is located in the "Côte des Blancs-Avize" region of Champagne. It has been passed down through three generations, starting with Alfred Bonville, who acquired vineyards during World War I. The vineyards contain a unique type of root system known as "pivot" that can grow up to 10-12 meters deep, absorbing minerals and nutrients from the chalky soil, resulting in grapes of higher quality.In 1948, Alfred Bonville's daughter, Zoemie Bonville, married Antonine de Sousa, and together they established Champagne de Sousa. They continued to build upon the family's legacy and traditions. Their son, Erick de Sousa, further improved the winemaking process, eventually adopting biodynamic practices. With 9 hectares of vineyards, including vines older than 45 years, the grapes are hand-harvested and undergo malolactic fermentation to enhance texture and complexity. Stainless steel fermentation tanks are used, and over 50% of the blend consists of "Reserve Wine" aged in new oak barrels. The vineyards are cultivated with low yields, resulting in an average production of over 100,000 bottles per year.
